Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan and is located in the south of the island. It’s a great city to explore and definately worth a visit.
You can get to Kaohsiung from Taipei by Taiwan High Speed Rail line (HSR) in just 90 minutes.
Things you must do in Kaohsiung
visit Liouho Night Market and the Dream Mall, the largest shopping mall in Taiwan and 2nd largest in Asia with a huge Hello Kitty Ferris Wheel on the roof.
Lotus Lake, Kaohsiung
This man made lake features many temples and pagodas, including the Spring and Autumn Pavilions, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and the Confucian Temple.
Lotus Lake is a very popular destination, there is so much to see and do and photograph, beautiful temples, pagodas, colourful statues and even dragons you can crawl into.
Dragons and tigers are a very auspicious symbol in China.
the entrance is the dragon’s throat and the exit is the tiger’s mounth.
Make sure that you enter the dragon’s throat and come out the tiger’s mouth as this will turn your bad luck into good fortune.
If you are in Kaohsiung definately do not miss dining at Smokey Joe’s Kaohsiung.
If you stomach is not used to Taiwanese food, you will be very glad you found this place- western bread(not sweet!) burgers, pasta, mexican, soups, cocktails at affordable prices, all of it delicious.
The restuaurant has a coyboys and indian theme and the staff wear cute cowboy and cowgirl outfits. Most of the staff at Smokey Joes have excellent english, the menu is in English and the food is Western.
Great atmosphere, amazing food- do not miss dining at Smokey Joes (every night) while in Kaohsiung.
